Maple Grove Customer: The first time I tried the AMSOIL product was in my show Chrysler 300 and right after the oil change I could tell the difference. Improved Transmission Protection

Viscosity is the most important characteristic of a lubricant. Motorcycle gears create a shearing effect that causes permanent oil viscosity loss. This thinning effect reduces the oil’s ability to prevent metal-to-metal contact and wear. The stability and natural operating temperature ranges of the premium synthetic base stocks used to formulate AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils eliminate shear and reduce wear. AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils exhibit absolute shear stability as measured by the Kurt Orbon shear stability test.

At the time of its original printing in December 2005, the A Study of Motorcycle Oils white paper represented the most comprehensive study of motorcycle oils ever published.
The document served to educate hundreds of thousands of readers on the complex dynamic of motorcycle oil and motorcycle operation. The paper revealed, through an exhaustive series of relevant industry tests, that the motorcycle oils available to consumers varied greatly in quality and in their ability to perform the functions of motorcycle lubrication.

This second edition printing maintains the same scientific approach and includes the same testing protocol.
Additional oils were tested, and some of the original oils tested differently than they had initially, indicating formulation changes. It should be noted that while some oils tested more poorly than they initially had, others showed improvement. Whether or not this improvement can be credited to the data revealed in the original publication remains a matter of speculation. In any case, as motorcycle oils continue to improve, consumers will benefit.

The high temperatures and tight tolerances common to motorcycle applications also affect viscosity. The High Temperature/High Shear (HTHS) Test (ASTM D-4683) measures a lubricant’s viscosity under severe high temperature and shear conditions. The more resistant an oil is to high temperature viscosity loss, the better it protects, and even a HTHS difference of 0.1 cP makes a significant difference.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils exhibit higher HTHS viscosities than competing conventional and synthetic motorcycle oils. As seen in the graphs, AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 and 10W-40 Motorcycle Oils displayed the highest High Temperature/High Shear viscosities in their respective test groups, providing motorcycle engines and transmissions operating in the harshest conditions with superior protection against wear and viscosity loss and eliminating the need for separate gear case oils as recommended by some competitors. Synthetic 10W-40 may also be used in two-cycle transmissions.

Most of you that know me understand that I am a bit of a Personal Development junkie. I figure there are worse addictions to have. I love to read  books and magazines that help me grow and make me think. Authors such as Napoleon Hill, Darren Hardy, Jim Rohn, Denis Waitley, Don Hutson, John Maxwell, Zig Ziglar, Dale Carnegie and Jeffery Gitomer come to mind. For a quick read, I really like SUCCESS Magazine or some of the E-zines that I subscribe to.
All of these are sources of great personal and professional development information. They help me grow.  I also like what Jim Rohn, considered by many to be today’s foremost business philosopher, once said, “Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.” (Wouldn’t the world be a better place if more of us concentrated on this??)

According to Rohn, the most important question to ask on the job is not, ‘What am I getting?’ it is, ‘What am I becoming?’ So, the question is just that, “what are you becoming?” I would ask another question that I am sure Mr. Rohn wouldn’t mind me adding, which is, “and how are you planning to get there?”
