We decided to add two new sections - one specifically for our Cold Air intake replacement filters as we get a lot of calls per application and the competitions oil wetted gauze type are so poor in loading capacity and maintenance.
We will also be adding a chemical maintenance product section. I can't imagine doing any maintenance Amsoil related without using the Power Foam to keep the engine area clean, the spray grease and Metal Protector to keep all moving parts in new condition. Also the Heavy Duty Metal Protector for anything which needs an "undercoating"treatment before harsh weather.
AMSOIL extended intervals will not void warranties.
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the FTC prohibits any manufacturer from voiding warranties by the use of aftermarket parts and maintenance. It clearly states "a warrantor cannot, as a matter of law, avoid liability under a written warranty where a defect is unrelated to the use by a consumer of ‘‘unauthorized’’ articles or service."
As long as you follow AMSOIL service life recommendation or use a oil analysis program you are covered additionally by AMSOIL's warranty.
Any statements your dealer or service dept makes regarding limitations in oil change intervals and warranty - ask for it in writing and they will quickly reverse their statement. After all, they are not lubrication experts and have no training on the subject. They don't understand the Manufacturer's duty to the consumer. AVOID Extended Warranties unless they provide the oil free and demand AMSOIL is the exclusive product to be used. It's your vehicle and your terms.
Need a 5W20? Our 5W20 is the lowest priced AMSOIL synthetic motor oil product. But a warranty cannot be voided if you use another viscosity. As long as the oil meets current API rating (SL-SM) you may use whatever you please. Besides, our 100% synthetic 0W20 is much more energy efficient and lasts 25,000 miles! See "Engine Oils" in the products section. (A 0W20 and 5W20 are the same operational weight. The "W" is the winter viscosity rating - NOT the viscosity. A 0W oil will be the 20 or 30 WT at a lower temperature meaning at room temperature it will remain closer to the actual operating viscosity than a 5W or 10W. In general with synthetics the "0W" ratings are a signal of higher quality!
When AMSOIL INC. introduced the first 100 percent synthetic motor oil to pass American Petroleum Institute (API) service requirements in 1972, it set all new standards for quality and performance in the world of automotive lubrication. However AMSOIL synthetic motor oils were ahead of their time. At first, vehicle manufactures and customers did not know what to think. Could this new synthetic motor oil really outperform the petroleum products they had been using all their lives? What followed was a lot of confusion over warranty coverage. Many unsure manufactures and dealers told customers that use of synthetic lubricants could void their vehicle warranties.
Why haven't they put our products to the test? #1, because it's expensive to do the tests and Because they know AMSOIL is #1 and they admit it and they don't have a problem with that. They are not in that level of service.
Our existing customers know because of the performance results. That is the primary concern.
Years ago AMSOIL Vice President Alan Amatuzio predicted Yamalube (one of the worst performing products - his quote "They tested so bad that if they knew how bad it actually was they would pull it tomorrow, so we don't think Yamaha knows much about the product they have with their name on it) - So Yamaha would see our motorcycle test study and get their product up to spec in about 2-years. "We see this happen all the time such as the time we put Valvoline in a study where they didn't even meet the specifications they had printed on their products. We caught them and they fixed it after we exposed them." (then in 2008 they failed again per SWRI gear tests)
Mobil 1 Comparisons - When buying a synthetic engine oil, our customers all have different motivations for wanting to use AMSOIL. Rather than dwell on the test results, I think the actual benefits our customers see are more important. It's worth mentioning that many of our competitors have switched to advertising over additives to compete.
That said, performance is our sales force. (Personally I have never been drawn to bench tests - it's in your best interest to see and feel the performance yourself then decide.)
I've had a lot of calls where the customer was reluctant to use another synthetic because he never used (engine consumed) oil until he used Mobil 1. The question I get is, "Is this oil going to use as much or more?"
Amsoil is lower in volatility. One of the additive packages is a haigher quality seal swell agent which help swell elastomeric seals by causing a chemical reaction in the elastomer. This is a more expensive grade of the additive no one else uses in the automotive product line.
I can't tell you how many times motorcycle customers have called concerned with poor clutch performance using Mobil products. With AMSOIL - run of the mill performance is not part of the equation. For wet clutch performance we not only engineer the oils to preserve clutch life, they are engineered to exceed the higher endurance level rather than "just do a satisfactory job."

A recent story in the September Lubes 'N' Greases magazine illustrates how the API may be expanding the definition of which products may be labeled as 'Synthetic' to possibly include Group II base stocks. Most labeled as synthetic blends use as little as 10% of the synthetic component and the performance shows. Those products are far over-priced. AMSOIL products clearly offer better wear protection than competitive synthetics and much better protection than conventional oils. Engines can fail due to mechanical problems even when using AMSOIL. AMSOIL Motor Oils, however, in over thirty years have never caused an engine failure. If you ever hear someone say AMSOIL caused their engine, bearings, pistons, etc. to fail, they're wrong.
Federal Mogul Corporation, a manufacturer of engine bearings, pistons, connecting rods and other engine parts, studied over 7,000 case histories of bearing distress and engine failure and never found engine oil to be the cause of a failure. Dirt, the number one cause of engine failure, was found to be responsible for 43.4% of failures, and insufficient lubrication, the second most common cause of failure, was responsible for 16.6% of failures. Insufficient lubrication is the general term used when not enough oil gets through to the engine to lubricate it (lack of oil volume).
Some causes of insufficient lubrication include oxidation, oil thickening, sludge, cold temperature related dry starts, etc. These, however, are also areas where AMSOIL motor oils out perform the competition. The use of AMSOIL products eliminates many of the common causes of these failures. If an engine breaks down with AMSOIL motor oil in it, it would have broken down sooner using another oil! That's fact!
A past 5 page article in the industry magazine, "Lubes 'n' Greases" which exposes the motor oil industry regarding it's shackling of US consumers, but points out only - "AMSOIL, The worlds largest independent manufacturer of synthetic engine oil, stakes its reputation on longer drain intervals (up to 35,000 miles) and backs it up with a full replacement engine warranty." -states David McFall - Automotive writer for Lubes 'n' Greases. He goes on to state, "Moreover, it has done so for three decades (Amsoil) without a single proven case of engine related failure in an engine covered by its warranty." (No AMSOIL reports on the FTC website also!)
For 35 years AMSOIL has kept this procedure pretty simple thanks to the quality of the oil and filters.
It's always best to refer to the product data sheet's "Service Life" or product description so you know the exact recommendation as this varies from product to product and whether it's a turbocharged, work engine, lawn equipment, marine, motorcycle or any other type. This is also simplified by using our new "Interval Guide". This new chart which I add to all catalog requests helps you decide which engine, transmission and filter to use and the proper duration.
For general gasoline passenger vehicles and trucks AMSOIL recommends 25,000 mile intervals or one year, whichever comes first when using our main 100% synthetic engine oils such as the ASL 5W30 , ATM 10W30, New 0W20, AMO, and TSO. Our oil filters are designed to last 25,000 miles or 1-year, so for one oil change it's simple. Order two oil filters and a case. That's basically all you need for two years of oil changes.
For your first change to AMSOIL we recommend a can of engine flush too.
What products do I need for my vehicle?
I recommend using AMSOIL's product and filter application guide. This is a fast and easy lookup system and lists all suggested products. Of course, if you have questions or want to use something else, please call or email us directly at 1-800-579-0580.
To continue to reduce costs, temperatures, downtime and improve performance, consider our ATF, gear lubes and fuel injector cleaner. For colder climates or heavy loads, our ATF will significantly improve transmission performance while lasting up to three times longer than the manufacturers suggested interval.
To get the optimum gas mileage in your vehicle I suggest the following (gas engines):
AMSOIL Synthetic 5W30 ASL, 0W30 TSO or 10W30 ATM.
AMSOIL PI fuel injector cleaner/performance improver concentrate. - This product surprises a lot of customers and you only need it every 4000 miles.
Use the ATF for automatic transmissions and the MTF 5W30 or MTG 75W90 for manual units per OEM specifications. I recently tested the MTF and gained up to two MPG's on a 1400 mile trip. Our customer data shows the ATF significantly increases mileage under load and in extreme high and low temperature situations.
Check your tire pressure. Increasing pressure 2 or 3 pounds can improve mileage and handling significantly.
Reduce your average speed on the highway. In a some cases all of the above could add up to 50 or more miles per tank.
Last - If you really want to learn "WHY" Amsoil products are really the only choice take a look at one of our Dealer Training Series guides for Lubrication Fundamentals. We're not suppose to put this here but it does answer the questions in 80 pages. I would suggest Section 4 (Additives) regarding cleanliness on page 60 for those with older engines. Discover how your favorite name brand does little at reducing deposits which eventually grow and cause more wear. Not to mention the ability to hold that wear particle in suspension after a few severe heat cycles in the first place.
For diesel engines you can also safely extend service intervals - quite a bit actually, but we recommend oil analysis for fleets. Our 15W40 AME Heavy Duty Diesel is guaranteed to last 25,000 miles in light duty turbo diesels such as the 5.9 Dodge Cummins.
Please revert to the interval chart or product data sheets but know when using analysis many customers generally double their intervals, especially with the great Donaldson filters available. Our diesel products save owners hundreds of dollars!

In order to meet 2007 particulate regulations, 15 ppm ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) was implemented June 2006. If you go from 3000 mile intervals to 25,000 mile intervals on engine oil, extend transmission intervals 3X while virtually eliminating (automatic) transmission failure not only do you save $ but your time is conserved.
One car driving 25,000 miles a year over 5 years considering the engine capacity of 5 quarts and transmission oil of 10 quarts (Automatic) generally saves about 202.5 quarts of oil in that 5-year period. So a 1,000,000 vehicle population of a large metroplex will reduce lubricant oil dependence thanks to AMSOIL 100% synthetics by 50,600,000 gallons in 5 years..
Add in the average of 5% savings on fuel using AMSOIL lubricants and fuel additives and if you change your driving habits moderately by driving at posted speed limits on the interstate keeping a cap of 65 MPH you could save another 15%. So someone who uses 40 gallons per week will reduce their need for gasoline by 8-gallons. Multiply out a year that is a savings of 416 gallons. Assuming 1/2 the people in Texas fit this profile of 40 gallons per week and adapted this principle - that is 23 Million population - half of that would have the effect to save about 4.7 billion gallons of gas in that state alone every year.
Some points on Motor Oil:
In the early days of automotive lubrication, motor oil was just plain base oil. When wax modifier was added to the base oil in the 1930s to address the problems created by wax residue, the motor oil additive market was born. Today, motor oils contain a wide variety of additives designed to improve their protection and performance capabilities. Motor oil additives
serve three essential functions: protecting metal surfaces, expanding the lubricant’s application range and extending
the lubricant’s life.
Surface Protection Additives
Surface protection additives effectively
address issues related to metal surfaces:
- Anti-wear agents protect against friction, wear, scoring and seizure.
- Corrosion and rust inhibitors protect internal metal parts against corrosion and rust.
- Detergents keep surfaces free of deposits.
- Dispersants prevent insoluble contaminants from agglomerating by keeping them dispersed in the lubricant.
- Friction modifiers alter the oil’s coefficient of friction.
A second group of additives serves to
improve the lubricant’s performance:
- Pour point depressants (used in petroleum lubricants) modify wax crystal formation and enable oils to flow at lower temperatures.
- Seal swell agents help swell elastomeric seals by causing a chemical reaction in the elastomer.
- Viscosity modifiers help reduce the rate of viscosity change when temperatures rise or drop.
A third group of additives works to extend the service
life of the lubricant:
- Anti-foamants reduce surface tension and speed the collapse of foam.
- Anti-oxidants reduce the oxidation rate by decomposing peroxides and terminating free-radical reactions.
- Metal deactivators reduce the catalytic effect of metals on the oxidation rate, further slowing oxidation.

12 Ways To Help Reduce Our Dependence On Foreign Oil and effect demand on fuel. (Investors in the futures market are a major cause for the sudden 2007 increase in prices) Just by reducing your highway speeds to 65 MPH will cause a supply which will cause the fools who bet against you to go bankrupt! Which is more enjoyable: reaching your destination in a hurry or sitting back knowing you stuck it to those who screwed you over in the first place?
- Pay attention to how you drive.
Don’t exceed highway speed limits. Use moderate-to-easy acceleration. Gas mileage is negatively affected by fast acceleration and fast deceleration.
If the speed limit is 75 drive 65 or 70. That alone is proven to reduce fuel use overall by 15%. We could end the fuel problems tomorrow if only people would reduce their highway speeds reducing drag.
Most people encourage cruise control use to save gas but you can do better. When you approach an incline, decelerate slightly, as cruise control will accelerate and overcompensate with it's hysterisis setting. Maintaining a constant speed helps reduce fuel consumption but as load increases on hills backing off 2 to 3 MPH as you incline will save you up to 5 miles per gallon in some cases and 10 MPG if you accelerate more on the downhill and then allow your speed to drop 10 to 15 on the climb. I have tested this. You can then accelerate or use inertia to gain back your speed after the incline levels off as you go down hill again. I learned this from many "Econo Run" events.
- Engine maintenance
Maintain a properly tuned engine. Dirty spark plugs do not create the maximum spark and cause reduced horsepower and increased emissions. Using AMSOIL bumper to bumper will greatly reduce the need for future repairs simplifying the process. Less heat = less systems degradation.
- Limit reliance on air conditioning
Limit use of air conditioning, especially during hot summer days. Yes, we know it’s not as comfortable but the issue here is saving gas. Remember the cars from the 60's? they had those great floor and window vents.
I recommend turning off the A/C switch at red lights giving the power to the engine during acceleration. Once 30MPH is reached, switch it back on to keep torque at the wheels during the motors most inefficient state - accelerating. You never loose from aerodynamics because the windows are closed.
- Synthetic lubricants
Switch to synthetic motor oil and drivetrain lubricants. Independent tests show savings of five to eight percent using AMSOIL synthetic motor oil, gear lubes and ATF. AMSOIL ATF and MTF gear lubes seem to be most significant from my own research. While AMSOIL advertises a general 2% increase with just motor oil alone several of our customers have noticed as much as a 12% increase in mileage to later become dealers.
- Air filter
Install clean air filter as needed. To get optimal efficiency from your engine, it has to breathe.
Keep windows rolled up at speeds over 40 mph. Open windows when driving over 40 mph can create a wind drag that will lower your mileage. Avoid use of roof rack. Reduce aerodynamic drag and improve your fuel economy by placing items inside the trunk whenever possible. Sun roofs also disturb smooth aerodynamic air flow and reduce mileage. Avoid high profile wheels and tires. Compare tire weights when shopping for new tires. The less you spend on a tire the more it will cost you on fuel and safety.
- Tire Maintenance
Properly inflate your tires. (most overlooked step) Keep tires balanced and rotated regularly. Keep front-end aligned for better mileage and longer tire life. Know what the maximum PSI rating is. I recommend a couple more PSI than the average "comfort" setting. My tires have a max of 45 PSI and the manufacturer recommends 31 PSI. I set mine to 35. Worth 5% to 10% gain in MPG.
- Excess weight
Pack light and clean out your trunk. Every 200 pounds of unnecessary weight shaves one mile per gallon off your gas mileage. You would be surprised how much stuff most people carry around in their trunks that they aren’t using.
- Minimize Idling.
Idling any longer than a minute wastes gas and one minute of idling uses more fuel than restarting your engine. When possible avoid drive-thru's. Idling for as little as 10 minutes while you sit in line can waste 5 or 6 miles worth of gas. Limit warm-ups to 30 seconds. Allowing your vehicle to idle excessively wastes gas.
- Plan and combine your trips.
Make a list and do all your grocery shopping once a week. Car pool, hike it, bike it or use public transportation if possible.
