AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® Small Engine Oil (ASE) is a robust formulation designed for hot temperature, severe service operation of small engines where routine maintenance is often difficult or infrequent. It is formulated with premium synthetic base oils that exceed both 10W-30 multi-grade and SAE 30 straight-grade viscosity requirements. Unlike conventional SAE 30 motor oils, AMSOIL ASE has a naturally high viscosity index and does not contain paraffin (wax). It has a -38°F pour point and qualifies for SAE 10W, making it an "all season," multi-grade lubricant with a wide operating temperature range. As an SAE 30 weight motor oil, AMSOIL ASE provides outstanding protection for hot operating engines. Formula 4-Stroke® Small Engine Oil is a commercial grade lubricant that helps improve productivity and reduce maintenance costs through superior engine protection.
How can a multi-viscosity work as a mono-viscosity?
Please see the Technical Service Bullitin Titled: Viscosity of Monograde and Multigrade Oils on this very subject why our 10W30/SAE-30 is the best for your specific needs calling for the old streight weight.
Resists Heat and Reduces Oil Consumption
Excellent For Transmission Systems
Recognizing the stress severe operating conditions place on small engine lubricants, many engine manufacturers are beginning to recommend synthetic oils for use over a broad range of ambient conditions. As a commercial grade lubricant, it meets the demands of homeowner, commercial and industrial applications, improving productivity and reducing maintenance costs through superior engine protection.
* “Air cooled engines run hotter than automotive engines. The use of non-synthetic multi-viscosity oils (5W-30, 10W-30, etc.) in temperatures above 40*F (4*C) will result in higher than normal oil consumption.”
AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® Small Engine Oil is formulated with high levels of premium anti-wear and detergent additive technology. It provides severe service protection of pistons, bearings and gears and effectively neutralizes acids from combustion by-products prone to small engines. Anti-rust additives further protect equipment during storage or infrequent use.

Tecumseh 150 hour endurance test
Developed within the compact engine industry, the Tecumseh 150-hour endurance test measures a lubricant’s ability to function in continuous operation applications and severe operating conditions common to engines in the field. Operating speed is maintained at a constant 3,200 RPMs, while average oil temperature is 283 degrees F, average intake air temperature is 103.5 degrees F, average cylinder head temperature is 570.9 degrees F and average exhaust temperature is 1256.4 degrees F.
Many try - Few succeed!
"This is one of the most versatile AMSOIL products in years. Ideal for operations who subject their 4-stroke engines to heavy loading, extended operations, want to benefit from extended life and performance, want to reduce the # of products needed for several diesel and gas motors and want to decrease fuel and maintenance costs."
AMSOIL ASE 10W30/SAE-30 cost less than most other suitable AMSOIL engine oils and for Commercial accounts can be purchased for less than $3.50 per quart.

Small-Engine Drain Intervals
With the performance and expectations of AMSOIL products, there seems to be something missing in the small engine interval recommendation. Why only the OE drain interval? I have numerous small engine customers who put who put many hours a year on their air compressors, water pumps, generators, welders, etc. With my personal experience and testing over the years, I am convinced it would be possible to go three to five times the OE drain interval in these applications. We have vehicles going up to eight times the OE drain interval, so why not more on small engines? Hopefully, this is possible in certain applications. Thanks for all the great products.
AMSOIL: Because small engines are often air-cooled and power a wide variety of applications with different operating conditions and sump sizes, it is impossible to recommend an extended drain interval. Instead, recommendations are made for the lowest common denominator or worse case scenario. Many applications you mentioned can go beyond OEM drain interval recommendations based on oil analysis, but they must be controlled and monitored.
