7/18/2011 - Just yesterday after testing Castrol we switched to AMSOIL 20W50 in our 1973 Moto Guzzi Eldorado. I have noticed a 15 degree drop in oil temperatures in 90 to 95 degree heat. The engine runs more smooth and quiet. Instant improvement just as our customers have been reporting for the last 13 years.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is a premium oil designed for those who demand the absolute best lubrication for their motorcycles. It is the result of extensive research and is specially formulated to excel in all areas unique to motorcycles, including the high temperatures of air-cooled engines such as Harley-Davidson* V-twins, wet-clutch lubrication, extreme-pressure regions of gears and chains and rust common to short trips and storage. AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is multi-functional and fulfills the requirements of both domestic and foreign motorcycles.

AMSOIL MCV is multi-functional and fulfills the requirements of both domestic and foreign motorcycles. It outperforms other conventional and synthetic motorcycle oil.

AMSOIL, the leader in synthetic lubrication, produced the world’s first API qualified synthetic motor oil in 1972. Trust the extensive experience of AMSOIL The First in Synthetics® to do the best job protecting your motorcycle.

Reduces Friction, Heat and Wear
In high heat conditions, engine protection is not sacrificed with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil. It has the best high temperature film strength (see High Temperature Viscosity Protection graph below) of all oils tested and contains a heavy treatment of anti-wear additives to reduce wear regardless of the operating conditions (see Wear Comparison graph on reverse). AMSOIL MCV is thermally (heat) stable and contains maximum levels of oxidation inhibitor additives. It is extremely resistant to breakdown and engineered to prevent damaging sludge and carbon deposits for superior engine cleanliness.

Withstands Extreme Heat
To prove its extreme-heat performance, AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil was installed in a 2012 Harley-Davidson FXDB Dyna Street Bob* motorcycle. After deactivating the electronic temperature controls to increase severity, the engine was subjected to extensive idle time broken by short bursts of revving to simulate the intense heat conditions of a rally or parade route. Despite little air flow and cylinder temperatures reaching more than 500°F, the oil maintained viscosity and delivered outstanding protection (see graph).

Reduces Wear and Deposits
AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil contains a heavy treatment of anti-wear additives to reduce wear regardless of the operating conditions. It is thermally (heat) stable and contains maximum levels of oxidation inhibitor additives. AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is extremely resistant to breakdown and engineered to prevent damaging sludge and carbon deposits for superior engine cleanliness.

Provides Extreme-Pressure Quality Protection for Gears and Chains
AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil delivers exceptional protection in transmissions and primary chaincases. It is absolutely shear stable and will not thin out from mechanical activity. AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Motorcycle Oil performs like a gear lube without the negative effects of extreme-pressure additives. In the FZG gear test, AMSOIL achieved a perfect score with a "zero" wear rating.

Delivers Superior Rust Protection
Motorcycles are prone to rust from storage, humidity and short drives. Rust can cause major damage such as roller bearing failure, wear, compression loss and blow-by. Good rust protection, however, comes by design and is not natural to motor oils. Unlike many motorcycle oils, AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil contains special anti-rust agents. It passes the ASTM D1748 humidity cabinet rust test, demonstrating superior rust protection to
help your engine achieve maximum performance and long life.

Provides Excellent Wet-Clutch Performance
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil contains no friction modifiers and promotes smooth shifting and positive clutch engagement. It controls heat and helps prevent slippage and glazing, while its high TBN helps improve clutch life by resisting the acids that can degrade clutch material.

APPLICATIONS
Engineered for use in motorcycles that require 15W-50 or 20W-50 motorcycle oil, including those made by Harley-Davidson*, Buell*, KTM*, Ducati*, Aprilia*, BMW* and Triumph*. Do not use where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required.

COMPATIBILITY
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is compatible with other synthetic and conventional motor oils. Mixing AMSOIL oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil’s life expectancy and reduce its performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.

Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils.

Service Life
Recommended for use up to twice the motorcycle manufacturer change interval (miles/hours) or one year, whichever comes first, in engines, transmissions and primary chaincases. For Big Twin Harley-Davidson transmissions only, follow the Harley-Davidson recommended drain interval for synthetic oil of up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. When using an engine filter other than AMSOIL Ea®, change the filter at standard intervals.

For off-road use, change AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil at motorcycle manufacturer-recommended intervals.

Racing or modified engines are excluded from extended drain interval recommendations. Oil changes are at the owner's discretion.

Improved Transmission Protection

AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils not only provide superior protection for motorcycle engines, they also provide superior gear protection, meeting API GL-1 gear lube viscosity requirements. AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-40 Motorcycle Oil (MCF) meets SAE 80W-90 gear lube requirements, while AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil (MCV) meets SAE 90 gear lube viscosity requirements.

Viscosity is the most important characteristic of a lubricant. Motorcycle gears create a shearing effect that causes permanent oil viscosity loss. This thinning effect reduces the oil's ability to prevent metal-to-metal contact and wear. The stability and natural operating temperature ranges of the premium synthetic base stocks used to formulate AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils eliminate shear and reduce wear. AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils exhibit absolute shear stability as measured by the Kurt Orbon shear stability test.

The high temperatures and tight tolerances common to motorcycle applications also affect viscosity. The High Temperature/High Shear (HTHS) Test (ASTM D-4683) measures a lubricant's viscosity under severe high temperature and shear conditions. The more resistant an oil is to high temperature viscosity loss, the better it protects, and even a HTHS difference of 0.1 cP makes a significant difference.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils exhibit higher HTHS viscosities than competing conventional and synthetic motorcycle oils, AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 and 10W-40 Motorcycle Oils displayed the highest High Temperature/High Shear viscosities in their respective test groups, providing motorcycle engines and transmissions operating in the harshest conditions with superior protection against wear and viscosity loss and eliminating the need for separate gear case oils as recommended by some competitors. Synthetic 10W-40 may also be used in two-cycle transmissions.

Provides Extreme Pressure Quality Protection for Gears and Chains
With AMSOIL MCV, there is no need for separate transmission or primary chaincase lubricants. It is absolutely shear stable and will not thin out from mechanical activity. AMSOIL MCV performs like a gear lube without the negative effects of extreme pressure additives. In the FZG gear test, AMSOIL MCV achieved a perfect score with a “zero” wear rating (see photo below).

Delivers Superior Rust Protection
Motorcycles are prone to rust from storage, humidity and short drives. Rust can cause major damage such as roller bearing failure, uncontrolled wear, compression loss and blow-by. Good rust protection, however, comes by design and is not natural to engine oils. Unlike many motorcycle oils, AMSOIL MCV contains special anti-rust agents. It passes the ASTM D-1748 humidity cabinet rust test and clearly demonstrates superior rust protection (see photos below).
