High Efficiency
Efficiency is a filter’s ability to capture contaminants. The more efficient a filter is, the more contaminants it will remove from oil. AMSOIL Oil Filters provide a filtering efficiency in accordance with industry standard ISO 4548-12 of 99 percent at 20 microns — one of the best ratings on the market. Some competitors also claim 99 percent efficiency, but at larger particle sizes of 30 to 40 microns.
Less Restriction
Proper oil flow is essential to keeping engine parts lubricated at all times. AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters’ synthetic fibers are smaller than the fibers used in traditional filters, allowing Ea Oil Filters to provide lower restriction. During cold-temperature warm-up periods, an Ea Oil Filter allows the oil to flow through the filter more easily than a typical cellulose filter does. Lower restriction decreases engine wear.
Contaminant Retention
A filter’s capacity refers to the amount of contaminants it can hold and still remain effective. AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters have a greater capacity for small, wear-causing contaminants than competing filter lines. They last longer and ensure the oil is properly filtered.
Superior Construction
AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are made with premium-grade full-synthetic media. The strictly controlled processing of this media ensures accurate filter construction and is what allows Ea Oil Filters to deliver higher capacity and efficiency along with better durability.
Ea Oil Filters’ full-synthetic media technology is resin-free to resist degradation from hot oil. It uses a wire screen backing that is pleated with the media for superior strength.
Ea Oil Filters are constructed with HNBR gaskets that are fully tested to extreme distances in numerous severe environments. They feature fully tucked seams, a molded element seal, roll-formed threads and a long-lasting, premium-grade silicone anti-drainback valve.

When used in conjunction with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils, AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are guaranteed for extended service life:
- Ea Filters designated with product code Ea15K are recommended for 15,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in normal or severe service.
- Ea Filters designated with product code EaO are recommended for 25,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in normal service or 15,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in severe service.
Consult the AMSOIL Product Guide or MyAMSOILGarage™ at www.amsoil.com to determine the appropriate filter for each application. When AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are used with a motor oil other than an extended-drain AMSOIL motor oil, the filter should be changed according to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation.
Oil Filtration Basics
Clean oil is vital to engine performance and durability. Oil must lubricate, cool and clean the engine as it circulates. In order to remain effective it must be filtered as it cycles.
The filter is connected to the engine sump, which contains the oil pump. Full-flow filters pass all the oil output from the pump through the filter.
The function of the oil filter is to remove the contaminants introduced into the lubricating oil and prevent them from reaching sensitive engine parts without restricting normal oil flow to the various points requiring lubrication. Internal sources of contamination include wear products from the rubbing surfaces of the engine, blow-by gases leaking past the rings of the pistons and degradation of the oil itself. A filter must perform well in the areas of efficiency, capacity, flow and life.
What is Absolute Efficiency?
Efficiency is the filter’s ability to capture contaminants. The more efficient a filter is, the more contaminants it will remove from the oil. To make a filter more efficient the spaces between the fibers in the media are made smaller, creating more resistance and limiting the oil’s ability to flow through the filter. Achieving maximum efficiency along with limited resistance is critical to good filtration.
AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters (EaO, Ea15K) have one of the best efficiency ratings in the automotive/light-truck market. Ea Oil Filters provide a filtering efficiency in accordance with industry standard ISO 4548-12 of 98.7 percent at 20 microns, while competitive filters containing conventional cellulose media range from 40 to 80 percent efficiency at the benchmark 20 micron.
Maximum Capacity
Capacity is the amount of contaminants a filter can hold and still remain effective. When a filter reaches maximum capacity the oil continues to flow through unfiltered, leaving harmful contaminants circulating in the oil. When a filter reaches maximum capacity it also reaches the end of its life and must be changed.
AMSOIL EaO Filters have a far greater capacity than competing filter lines. When used in conjunction with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils in normal service, EaO Filters are guaranteed to remain effective for 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
Hint: – My advice on choosing the best oil filter is to buy the one which isn’t afraid to show you both sides of the Equation! Many tell you we are 98% efficient (or 100%) per the ISO-4548 Test – but what they fail to tell you is what the smallest micron was captured at that 98%.
Also read our AMSOIL Dealer training technical document on filtration then you will have a clear view on what the other guys are up to. Back in 2002 we had the same “synthetic cellulose” filter that Mobil 1 sells now (2011) and that was approximately 80% at 20 microns and had limited life due to the larger media and resins.

Superior Construction
Over the service life of a conventional cellulose filter, hot oil will degrade the resins that bind the media. Ea Oil Filters’ full-synthetic media technology is resin-free. It uses a wire screen backing that is pleated with the media for superior strength.
Ea Oil Filters are constructed with HNBR gaskets that are fully tested to extreme distances in numerous severe environments. The filters also feature fully tucked seams, a molded element seal, roll-formed threads and a long-lasting, premium-grade silicone anti-drain valve.
Due to Donaldson’s manufacturing practices within our EAO and EA15K line, you will never find a better built oil filter elsewhere. Eliminating the resins alone should convince you of the built in insurance for flow in all conditions. There are a lot of big name filters which do say we have breakthrough technology but they never offer both sides of the equation, do they?
Less Restriction
Consult the AMSOIL Online Application Guide at the main site to determine the appropriate filter for each application. When AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are used with a motor oil other than an AMSOIL extended drain motor oil the filter should be changed according to the vehicle manufacturer recommendation.
Nanofiber Filter Media
- Traps sub-micron size particles on the nanofiber surface
- Prevents particles from lodging in the filter media depth
Above: Advanced Full Synthetic media. Small, consistent fibers trap smaller and hold more contaminants: restriction is lower.
EaO Filter Q & A
Why is the AMSOIL EaO synthetic media better than cellulose based oil filtration media?
Synthetic media have submicron diameters (nanofibers) and small inter-fiber spaces which result in more contaminants being captured on the surface of the media and lower restriction. Cellulose fibers are larger and have larger spaces between the fibers, causing the contaminants to load inside the media and plug the flow path, resulting in higher restriction and lower capacity.
Why does the AMSOIL EaO Filter use wire mesh?
The synthetic media needs support.
Will the AMSOIL EaO Filters remove soot?
AMSOIL EaO Filters were designed to meet the filtration needs post EGR engine development. However, these are full-flow filters and are not designed as a soot control device. If you need to remove soot a more restrictive filter such as our By-pass or partial flow 2-micron units will be needed.
What does Ea Mean?
Absolute efficiency (Ea) describes filters that pass the muli-pass (beta ratio) test with a contaminant-removal efficiency rate of 98.7 percent (75.0 ß beta) or better.
AMSOIL Ea Filters are evaluated with the beta ratio test in order to validate
their high efficiency performance and demonstrate their superiority to
consumers.
In the test, fluid containing particles of a known size is filtered through
the test media. At specific intervals, particles are captured and counted
on both sides of the filter media. The upstream and downstream
concentrations of particles are used to calculate the beta ratio (numbers of
particles upstream are divided by the numbers of particles downstream For instance, if 1000 2 micron particles are captured upstream of the filter
media, and 13 2 2 micron particles are captured downstream of the filter
media, the beta ratio would be expressed as, ßx=1000/13= 76.9 where x
represents the size of the particles measured. A Beta ratio of 76.9 indicates
the filter removed over 98.7 percent of the contaminants 2 microns or larger,
which meets AMSOIL Ea standards.
Why doesn’t other filter companies give us more information like this?
Well if they did, then they would have to make a better filter. The costs of doing so would eat into profits which would upset the stock holders. Best to not upset the apple cart. AMSOIL has always had the policy to make the best and to continue the lead no matter the costs. There are no stockholders to issue a compromise.
What is AMSOIL’s filter warranty?
AMSOIL warrants that its filtration products are fit for use according to AMSOIL’s recommendations and warrants its products to be free of defective materials, design and workmanship.
What kind of vehicles are the AMSOIL EaO Filters designed for?
AMSOIL EaO Filters are designed for cars and light trucks equipped with gasoline engines and some diesel pickups.
How many EaO Filters are being offered?
We have 40 EaO and EA15K Filters for the most popular auto/light truck applications. AMSOIL will continually study providing filters for additional applications.
If AMSOIL does not offer an EaO filter for my vehicle, what do I do?
AMSOIL will continue to offer other oil filtration products for auto and light truck applications. AMSOIL will provide name brand filters for most applications that are not covered by AMSOIL labeled products.
How do I cross reference my current filter or application?
The prior and discontinued SDF series of AMSOIL oil filters were very similar to the micro blend design currently marketed by many other “Premium filter” brands which are made in Mexico. Currently one major label remarks that they have a 99.2% efficiency rating per ASTM testing but they fail to note at which micron size filtration. That answer is about 30 microns.
AMSOIL offers the consumer guaranteed “Absolute Efficiency” protection and offers you the whole equation – 98.7% efficient throughout our recommended intervals.
