My wife and I brought the 1998 Nissan Maxima in the year 2000 from Hertz used cars. The car is equipped with 3.0 V6 engine. A few years later a friend of mine at work was telling me about Amsoil. I decided to do some investigating on my own to verify AMSOIL’s claims.
I discovered that there were a number of automobile companies that would void their warranty if synthetic oils were not used. In 2004 I put Amsoil synthetic engine oil in the vehicle. The first noticeable improvement was the car accelerated better than before. I also experienced an increase in gas mileage of 30 miles each tankful. The winters in Utah can get very cold sometimes below zero. One of the benefits of using Amsoil is the engine is a lot easier to start in the cold weather. I decided to put in the transmission fluid the following year. The transmission shifted smoother even in cold weather.
In the year 2010 I changed the transmission fluid again. The color was a slightly darker red than the new transmission oil. The filter was very clean. The transmission oil held up well after 73,000 miles and 5 years of usage. Today the car has over 185,000 miles on it and it runs extremely smooth.

At the time of its original printing in December 2005, the A Study of Motorcycle Oils white paper represented the most comprehensive study of motorcycle oils ever published.
The document served to educate hundreds of thousands of readers on the complex dynamic of motorcycle oil and motorcycle operation. The paper revealed, through an exhaustive series of relevant industry tests, that the motorcycle oils available to consumers varied greatly in quality and in their ability to perform the functions of motorcycle lubrication.
This second edition printing maintains the same scientific approach and includes the same testing protocol.
Additional oils were tested, and some of the original oils tested differently than they had initially, indicating formulation changes. It should be noted that while some oils tested more poorly than they initially had, others showed improvement. Whether or not this improvement can be credited to the data revealed in the original publication remains a matter of speculation. In any case, as motorcycle oils continue to improve, consumers will benefit.
The high temperatures and tight tolerances common to motorcycle applications also affect viscosity. The High Temperature/High Shear (HTHS) Test (ASTM D-4683) measures a lubricant’s viscosity under severe high temperature and shear conditions. The more resistant an oil is to high temperature viscosity loss, the better it protects, and even a HTHS difference of 0.1 cP makes a significant difference.
AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils exhibit higher HTHS viscosities than competing conventional and synthetic motorcycle oils. As seen in the graphs, AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 and 10W-40 Motorcycle Oils displayed the highest High Temperature/High Shear viscosities in their respective test groups, providing motorcycle engines and transmissions operating in the harshest conditions with superior protection against wear and viscosity loss and eliminating the need for separate gear case oils as recommended by some competitors. Synthetic 10W-40 may also be used in two-cycle transmissions.
